Description

COURTESY LISTING:

Archie is a 9 year old, 15.3 hand, bay gelding. He left the track when he was around 4 years old and was then trained as a hunter/jumper. He also learned how to sort cattle and trail ride at that time. He has competed at local and rated shows in the hunters and jumpers up to 0.95m.

I purchased him in 2021 and competed with him for the next year before he started having problems with his back. After being fully worked up by veterinarians, the only possible contributor found was mild kissing spine. He had surgery in September of 2022 and his post-op radiographs are beautiful.

Archie was rehabilitated fully and back to full-time flat work, teaching him to carry himself in a better frame, by January of 2023. At that time I had gone back to school and only had time to flat him and not have time to introduce him back to jumping. The vets have cleared him to jump, we just haven’t had the time.

Since the beginning of 2023, Archie has been happily flatting 5-6 times a week as he loves to have a job and be challenged. He is more of an intermediate type ride and would benefit from at least an intermediate level rider with a trainer. As for his attitude, he truly has a puppy-dog personality. He has not acted out at all since his surgery. He has not shown any vices under saddle post surgery. He can flat with or without other horses in the arena. He loves to follow you around and be spoiled and loved on.

One of his favorite things is walking around with you and being allowed to hold and chew on the end of his lead rope like a pacifier. He stands for the farrier and vet, clips, and bathes. He loves to drink out of the hose during bath time but be careful because he may try and get you wet with the hose. His favorite treats are anything peppermint flavored. He is not the biggest fan of apples or carrots but occasionally he will eat one.

As for price, I ideally would like around $3,000 but he is negotiable to a good home. My priority with Archie is to find him a good home. The money I may or may not get for him is just an added bonus. If a potential buyer would like to make a donation to ATR instead of a rehoming fee that is perfectly acceptable to me.
