Description

Leia was adopted in June of 2017 by Alexa in York County, PA. Alexa is excited to work with her toward becoming her next partner in hunters and we know she’ll do great. Can’t wait to hear how they progress together!

Village Princess is a 2010 bay mare by Defrere that retired in September of 2016. She was bred and raised by a wonderful family in New Jersey who has donated three horses to After the Races in order for them to find new homes, including Village Princess’ full brother Silent Bolt.

Village Princess had a moderate career, running 33 times before getting to retire back home to the farm where she was born. She enjoyed a nice vacation there, getting the winter off before coming to us here at ATR in March. Her owner reports that she never had any injuries or problems and was always very good to ride and unflappable in temperament, much like another relative of hers we had, Mercedes Lynn!

Village Princess reminds us of a more mature version of Mercedes. She’s very sweet, very quiet, and gets along very well with other horses. She settled right in here, joining a herd of four other mares and one miniature horse without incident and is easy to handle. We know we need to get more photos and video of her because she’s a beautiful mover and a beautiful horse as well.

Village Princess passed her vet eval with flying colors! She is very sound, has perfectly clean legs, and is barefoot with good feet. Our vet thought she was definitely worth a look for serious competitors as well as amateurs alike. Under saddle she is as unflappable as her owner described. She loves to work and is a pretty straightforward ride for a horse right off the track. We’re not able to ride them consistently with our wet spring, but even if she only gets ridden once every week or two, she improves with every ride. Evidence of her great brain!
