Description
Where's the Bens is a 9 year old, 15.3+ hand, dark bay gelding who came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. He is by Here Comes Ben (by Street Cry (IRE)), and out of a Miner's Mark mare.
Ben raced 38 times with his last race 2 years ago. He was reportedly acquired and entered training to eventually be a steeplechase horse but didn't show the muster he needed to be successful. We were told he was still in training through April of this year, when they decided not to continue on with him. To our knowledge he has been hanging out on a farm since then, waiting for a shot at a program like ATR.
Ben has been an easy horse to have around the farm since arrival. Our vet found him to be sound and expected him to have a great future ahead. His knees had some effusion in them but were cold and nonpainful and did not bother her much.
We think Ben has the temperament to make a great pleasure horse or all-around riding partner. We've had a few rides on him now in our round pen and he's improved with each ride, showing he's willing and a quick learner. He will probably be great for an adult amateur with a trainer to take on as a project to be their next partner.
Ben is a mild cribber but it is controlled with a collar.
