Tommy was adopted in June of 2025 by a repeat adopter in Maryland. She primarily rides dressage but might do some jumping. She's thrilled to bring Tommy on as her next partner in crime and is hoping it's a lifelong partnership.

Tom's Choice is a lovely, 7 year old, 16.2 hand, bay gelding who was given to After the Races by his owner due to financial reasons only. Tommy was a nonwinner of 6 races, and after racing entered a lovely program where he was developed in dressage and over fences. Tommy is an in-your-pocket horse. He's incredibly personable and sweet and thrives on attention.

Tommy has been in consistent work and is solid on the flat with beautiful connection. Tommy also nicely jumps courses around the beginner novice level with lead changes. He enjoys trail riding, hunter paces, and just spending time with his humans. His last owner believes dressage is his forte, and he is a lofty mover with good deal of suspension and elasticity for an OTTB. With his experience on the flat, over fences, and on he trails, he is ready to rock and roll in whichever direction his future adopter desires!

This horse is ready for his next partner. ATR staff and volunteers have enjoyed getting to know him and enjoy riding him. One of our volunteers commented after her first ride on him that he "feels very safe," and we agree. He's beautifully trained off seat and leg and has a soft mouth. While he's a very safe horse to handle and ride, he will not enjoy a beginner rider who is rough with their hands or hangs on him (fair!). That said, we feel confident intermediates or better with soft hands will really excel with and have fun with him. He goes so nicely in just a simple double jointed snaffle that he is a joy to ride.

Tommy is by Laoban and out of a Grand Reward mare. This means he carries some greats like Uncle Mo, Indian Charlie, Speightstown, and more in the first few generations. While he didn't run on the turf, he's built like a turf horse with big bone and a lot of substance.

Our vet adores Tommy and gave him a big thumbs up to go in any direction without known limitations. Tommy is turned out with other geldings here without issue. He's independent and happily lets other horses be the boss in the field. Tommy's only vice is that he does crib, but it is controlled with a dare collar which will go with him to any future home.
