Description
To Honor Stephanie went home with adopter Kim in Maryland. Kim's daughter Nicole has adopted three horses from After the Races in previous years and when it was time for Kim to find her next partner for pleasure riding, trails, and enjoying riding with her grandkids, ATR was the first place they looked. It was love at first sight when they came to visit To Honor Stephanie, and we're so excited for the match!

Original post:
To Honor Stephanie is a 12 year old, approximately 15.3 hand, bay gelding that recently returned to After the Races due to no fault of his own after nearly 8 years with his first adopter who loved him dearly. He raced 24 times, retired sound, and is a grandson of both Bernadini and Kingmambo, for those that can appreciate his breeding.
"Kona," as he was called by his adopter, came with the report that he's a very good boy who has put in a lot of miles as an all around pleasure horse since adoption. He is a lower key guy and they enjoyed trail riding and also took lessons in dressage and some low level jumping, including cross country. He was with her trainer for the past year who also loved him dearly. While they could have tried to sell him when circumstances made it impossible to keep him, they were more concerned with him finding a safe and amazing home.
Kona had a great intake evaluation with our vet who found him very sound and ready to rock and roll in any direction. We hope to have some evaluation rides on him soon, but we do not expect any surprises. He has no known limitations and a great brain for someone who would love an OTTB but maybe needs one with more miles off the track than our average horses have.
Kona is barefoot, has no vices, and we'll update his page again as soon as we get some rides on him!
