Thirsty for Gold – “Patron”
ARRIVED AT ATR:
Patron was adopted by Jordan in Virginia in February, 2018. She had gotten to know Patron while staying with an ATR board member and fell in love. The two are hoping to pursue eventing together and we can’t wait to see how he comes along. He is one fancy pony!
“Patron” is a strikingly handsome, 2 year old,bay gelding who arrived at the end of October in 2017. He retired through Monmouth Park’s Second Call program after only one race. He injured a sesamoid and has since had all of the necessary rehab. He is currently getting turned out til the new year before returning to work, and our veterinarian thinks he’ll be ready to go into work then without any real limitations.
Being 2 years old and recently gelded, Patron would be best suited for an experienced horse owner familiar with working with young horses. He’s very well behaved for walking in hand, but can occasionally be nippy (playful, not mean). Turned out, he’s actually very submissive and quiet with the other horses. He likes to play, but will defer to their lead. Manners are getting better every day.
Our vet cleared him to go on to most disciplines except the highest levels of jumping or eventing. Someone with realistic goals of low to mid-level competition would do great with him. He is also eligible for the 2018 Retired Racehorse Project.
