Description

Sabre Six was adopted in January of 2025 by Heidi in Georgia. Heidi enjoys keeping things interesting by cross training and enjoys limited distance endurance riding as well as dabbling in dressage and jumping. Could not have asked for a better horse to pursue those activities with. We can't wait to hear how they do!

Original post:

Sabre Six is a 6 year old, 16.2+ hand, bay gelding who originally came to us in partnership with New Start. While he was unraced, he had plenty of (slow!) workouts at the track while in training. He is by Alternation (by Distorted Humor) and out of an Indygo Shiner mare.

Sabre was originally adopted in 2022 by a local show jumper who has a terrific training program and provides impeccable care. He keeps only a couple horses at a time that he brings along carefully, taking a lot of extra time to develop them and see if they'll be his next jumper.

After two years with this adopter, Sabre has a great foundation in dressage and has been schooled over jumps (courses and grids) as well as extensively hacked around the gorgeous Unionville, PA countryside. Sabre always had more of a hunter way of going and way of jumping and is lovely. His adopter just thought he'd make someone a much nicer hunter or total all-around pleasure horse than his next big jumper.

He offered to send him back to us with all that great training so he can stay in our network and also be a nice horse for ATR to adopt out. We're happy for the opportunity as we know there are a lot of potential adopters out there that need a horse with more training!

We're happy to have Sabre back. He has no vices, has been lovely to handle, is very fit and well conditioned. The weather is of course taking a turn for the worse now that he's here and we don't have an arena or ring set up to ride in when things are wet but we've at least sat on him and our initial impression is he's cool, level-headed, happy, and eager to please.

We need to get more rides on him but if there are any show hunters out there looking for a great prospect without having a major shopping budget, he could be one to consider. Adult amateurs who love to ride and train and show occasionally, he would likely fit as well. He'd also do well with an active pleasure rider who just wants to have fun with their horse, whether they're doing paper chases one weekend or dressage lessons during the week or going to fun unrated shows. He could really go in a lot of directions.

Conformation photos below are from when he was 4 years old. As we have other horses with no photos, we'll update his once we catch up on the others! We will look into getting videos showing his training to post as well so stay tuned for that.
