Patty's Boy is an 9 year old, 16.2 hand, bay gelding, who came to us in partnership with New Start from Penn National. Patty's Boy raced 33 times. He retired after his last race in December of 2023 with a tendon injury from which he fully recovered (with no limitations!) and was adopted in October of 2024 to a lovely foxhunting home in Virginia.

While in Virginia Patty was brought along very nicely by his adopter and with his temperament was out with the foxhunt his first season. We were told while he was still learning to jump, he even successfully led the 2nd field at least once! His adopter said you can take him and ride him everywhere and he was just one of the nicest horses she's had. Unfortunately in July he stopped sweating, only leaving a little sweat behind under his saddle. His adopter returned him because she felt it wasn't fair for a non-sweater to live so far south and she hoped we could find him a new home.

The good news? He's been sweating again! Anhidrosis is not a well understood condition, but some evidence shows time off is all that's needed to restart the sweating process. Patty did indeed get about 4 weeks off here, he also got a few simple supplements. We started riding him again in September and he is absolutely able to sweat again, even on cool days. We've even seen him sweat hanging out in the sun on a warm day.

While it might not be a great idea for Patty to move back South, we're hopeful he should do just fine in our area (Northern Maryland) and farther north. Patty is currently turned out with mares and geldings without issue. He has no vices, is front shod, and is lovely to ride. He was always one of our favorites when he was here the first time, and he's maintaining that status to this day.
