Description
Ole Rocky Top was adopted by Beverly in June of 2024. Beverly is very local to ATR and is looking forward to bonding with the sweet, older mare and enjoying some light riding together on and off the farm. Ole Rocky Top won her over with her personality but also met her age requirements, with all the other ATR horses being "much too young," which we quite enjoyed. So happy these two found each other!

Original post:
Ole Rocky Top, "Topper," is a 17 yr old, lovely chestnut mare who came to us in partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. Topper raced 39 times and retired back in 2013. Since then she's had some foals and lived the best broodmare life. When she didn't take this year they decided it was time to retire her from breeding. ATR has been developing a reputation for working with broodmares and we are so happy to take her on!
For those who like breeding, she's a granddaughter of AP Indy and Citidancer. This makes her a great-granddaughter of Seattle Slew, Mr. Prospector, and one of my personal favorites: Dixieland Band. We were told by her connections she is very sweet and people oriented and that seems to be the case in our experience as well.
Topper settled right in with her new field mates and is enjoying settling in to the farm. Our vet found her to be clean and very sound. She gave her an excellent prognosis for whatever her next career might be!
We will be evaluating her as well for riding and what she wants to do. If she's anything like a lot of our past broodmares, she'll be thrilled to have all the extra attention and for the chance to have a "job" again, whatever that looks like for her.
We will post more when we have it!
