Northern Flame is a 5 year old, bay gelding that came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. While he once sold for $425,000 as a yearling, he only earned just slightly more than that during his career of 21 races. He is by Flameaway and out of a Bernadini mare.

Earlier in Flame's career, an OCD was found in his stifle, but he since went on to race successfully without any aggressive treatment. He arrived jogging nice and sound, which our vet was very happy about. She's hopeful he just needs a lower key lifestyle than one as a racehorse. We are turning him out for at least 30 days to let him be a horse and see how he feels as he gets that level of exercise, before beginning any retraining.

Flame is a very good boy, very kind, and we know his racing connections were very fond of him. He's currently getting turned out with another gelding now and doing well. He has no vices and hopefully if we confirm over time that his stifle is pretty happy, he should be able to have a nice career as a pleasure horse in the future. We definitely want to set him up for success.
