Original post:
“Ike” is a 5 year old, 16.2+ hand bay gelding who exudes class. Ike only ran two times, and after suffering a condylar fracture while working, he was retired. Ike’s fracture was repaired surgically by the wonderful vets at Mid Atlantic Equine and he is expected to have a full recovery!
Ike has been at After the Races since May. He made excellent progress throughout his rehab and was cleared to return to work and full turnout late September. We are allowing Ike to enjoy being a horse on turnout until October and then, if he hasn’t been adopted yet, he’ll be put to work! While on complete stall rest, Ike was an absolute gentleman to work with and he still possesses a wonderful puppy dog personality. He follows calmly when led, loves to cuddle, and will absorb any and all attention you send his way. He stood perfectly for the vet and farrier, for his baths, and was an excellent patient when having his bandages changed earlier on.
Both the surgeon who performed the surgery and our vet believe Ike has no significant limitations moving forward. He is ready to start looking for a new career which can even be in jumping or eventing. He is ready to adopt now, but has not yet been started under saddle, so we’d require an experienced home for this guy. Ike is currently barefoot, up to date on most shots, coggins, and has NO vices.
Ike is available for adoption now for $800, though this will increase when he begins work under saddle.
