Description
Nearly a Lady is a 5 year old, 15.3 hand, bay mare that originally came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. Her race trainer was incredibly fond of her and said she is a very affectionate mare that he loved to spoil with peppermints, carrots, and even sweet potatoes!
She came to us upon retiring after 10 races and having sustained a sesamoid injury which has fully healed and surgeons have agreed she's going to do great in a new career! Our vet has evaluated Lady multiple times and can confirm she is super cute and very sound. Lady should be suitable for any activity on the flat as well as some lower level jumping as well.
Lady has no vices, is very personable, and is an easy one to fall in love with. She has been turned out with geldings and mares without issue. On the ground she's a very sweet, easy-going mare who loves attention, peppermints, and being groomed by our volunteers. She's also currently barefoot and of course up to date on everything.
We started Lady back into work this spring, starting with a lot of ground work and now progressing to having several rides at the walk and trot while she learns the ropes of being a riding horse. Lady is very green, forward-thinking, and athletic (so not for beginners), but will be a lot of fun for an experienced rider of OTTBs as she is very fancy and tries incredibly hard to work out what is being asked of her by her rider. She is going to turn heads no matter what career you ultimately pursue with her.
While she could go in many directions, we think she could have what it takes to be an endurance horse. What direction would you take her in?
