Due to the nature of Mumu's synovitis and how she'd been responding to the treatments and interventions used, we were keeping the door open for a non-riding option for her should one present itself. She was very fortunate to find a coveted teaching spot with a university that ATR has worked with on several horses, and with her incredibly kind, sweet temperament, we're sure she's going to be an asset for them and loved on by so many students for years to come.

An important update

Mumu started presenting lame in her left front not long after arrival. After several diagnostic visits, the cause was identified as synovitis in her fetlock joint. Imaging was otherwise unexciting so we're optimistic she will do very well with treatment. She has been a very good patient through periods of rest and while receiving some daily treatments. We also treated her joint with Prostride on February 11th. As of March 11th, she's shown improvement and was mostly sound lunging in the round pen for our vet. We're going to continue limiting her turnout to a small paddock for the rest of March, and see if she continues to improve from here. If she does, she may be ready to get more turnout and return to work by April. Keep sending positive thoughts her way!

Mummalicious ("Mumu") is a 5 year old, solidly-built, 16 hand, bay mare that came to us in partnership with New Start out of Penn National. This pretty girl raced 15 times and retired after showing "little talent or interest in racing!" Mumu is by Hoppertunity and out of a Congrats mare. That means her pedigree contains a lot of greats such as Distorted Humor, AP Indy, Giant's Causeway, and more!

Mumu arrived to us barefoot and sound. She was sound for her intake evaluation on arrival and our vet cleared her with no expected limitations on her future. Mumu has been incredibly well behaved and has a wonderful temperament that really makes her stand out in a crowd. She has no vices and has been turned out with other mares without issue.

We've only had one ride on Mumu, and she was as fantastic as we expected. Her first ride was in the snow and she stood perfect for mounting and happily went around walk/trot even as snow built up under her hooves. While we can't keep horses in consistent work this time of year, she did great for being pulled out of a field two months after her last race. We're pretty confident she'll be amateur friendly while also having a lot to offer professionals as well.

Definitely one worth taking a chance on!
