Description
Moon Warrior was adopted in the summer 2024 by Terri. Terri is excited to have a new partner and plans to do a mixture of hunter paces, local shows, and trail riding with Moon Warrior.
Original Post:
Moon Warrior is a big, 5 year old, bay gelding who arrived at the end of May in partnership with the New Start program at Penn National. This handsome guy is of course by Malibu Moon. He's out of a Tabasco Cat mare and raced a total of 20 times. His last race was just in April of 2024 and he retired with a soft tissue injury.
We were immediately impressed by the presence this horse had coming off of the trailer. Someone else must have noticed that presence in him because he once was an RNA for $290,000 at a yearling auction. For those not auction savvy, that means $290,000 was not enough to purchase him!
Our vet's evaluation of him in June confirmed he retired with a suspensory injury that was already healing. The body of the RF suspensory is enlarged and the medial branch were mildly thickened. Even with the findings, our vet believes he has an excellent long-term prognosis for his next career!
Mid-July we just did a new ultrasound and the vet thought it looked fantastic. She cleared him to do small turnout for two weeks and then full turnout after that. She thinks he'll be ready to go back to work under saddle by the end of August.
She said he should have no limitations on his future career! Moon Warrior has been a good boy to handle and work with throughout his layup time. He had a good personality, bit playful (loves holding the lead rope for you), and no vices.
