**Monster Mason is not available until after he gets gelded, but is otherwise sound!**

Mason Mason is a 9 year old, bay stallion that came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. This guy is a true warhorse having raced 59 times with his last race mid-November. He is by Animal Kingdom and out of a Dance With Ravens mare. I won't have to tell the racing fans, but that means he has a pretty cool pedigree.

Mason had a long history with his racing connections, who acquired him as a yearling and had him for his entire career. While he hadn't won a race in a while, it was hard to let him go as he was just so nice to have in the barn. Reportedly his trainer would put his kids on him when they'd visit from the track, and he also taught new riders how to ride using Mason, all of which requires a lot of trust, especially of a stallion!

Mason had a great intake evaluation with our vet who found him sound other than a little tender from having his hind shoes pulled. She said he should be ready to get gelded, let down, and then start working toward a new career.

While still a stallion, he really has been so easy to have around. He has not been mouthy at all and has been very happy to hang out while we wait for a break in the weather to have him castrated. He has the makings of being an amateur friendly horse (once castrated and rehabbed!) but we'll certainly post more about our thoughts on him the longer he's here.

Simply due to being a 9 year old stallion, once castrated and settled he'll still probably do best in a living situation with only other geldings for the foreseeable future. He has no problem with mares being in the barn as long as they're not next to him but it should be expected anyone adopting him will only turn him out with geldings. Really, a small consideration in the long run!
