Long Key is a very sweet, 9 year old, chestnut mare who came to us directly from her previous owner. She is a very eager, athletic mare who did great previously in a professional program (videos below) but was ultimately needed a rider with more confidence than her owner felt she could give, and she really wants to see her thrive in a home that will appreciate her.

It's clear she was very well loved as Key is incredibly sweet and enjoys being sung to. She knows how to smile and "give kisses," and enjoys doing carrot stretches. She has a long list of favorite treats including Twizzlers which she pulls into her mouth like spaghetti (much to the amusement of our volunteers!).

Long Key arrived in good shape and had a terrific intake evaluation with our veterinarian who found her sound and ready to go right into a riding/training program while she looks for her new home. She has no known past injuries and no expected limitations on her next career.

In her previous training, Key had a solid start in dressage and jumping with a professional rider (seen in videos below). She has been in less consistent work since then and most recently has been out of work for a bit so is in need of refreshing. Her recent owner reports that she is very smart and has a great work ethic. She enjoys going in a frame and loves to stretch. She said she's still green over fences and also very keen (possibly too keen!) but does better when she goes back to basics over cavalettis and smaller jumps. Ultimately she believes she needs a confident rider who can continue with her training, which she did not feel equipped to do.

We're really looking forward to getting her back to work here and seeing what she likes to do. She has no vices and has been good in turn out with mares and geldings.
