Description

Kim was adopted in the fall of 2025 by Mimi. Mimi has adopted from us before and felt Kim would fit right in with her other horses. She plans to get to know Kim over the winter and looks forward to all around fun with her in the future.

Original Post:
Kim’s Diamond is an 8 year old, dark bay mare that retired from racing in 2021 through Aftercare Charles Town. She came to After the Races and was adopted by a lovely adopter in New Jersey who had her for the last several years. Due to her adopter's chronic health issues, she unfortunately was no longer able to ride and she wanted Kim to have every chance at finding another wonderful home.

Her adopter reports that Kim competed in first level dressage and has t he ability to do more. She also said she has competed up to 0.8m jumpers and done some starter level eventing. She says she likes dressage and loves to learn and will do best with someone who will keep her brain busy, and not someone who rides the same 20 meter circles over and over. She reportedly does great off the farm whether it's at a horse show or schooling cross country or going for a hack. They even took her to a couple schooling shows on the fly even when she wasn't in steady work, and Kim reportedly showed up, went around, and had a great time.

That said, they say she's not for beginners as she's very sensitive. She's also had several months off prior to returning to ATR so she'll need someone to get her back into work, get her nice and supple again, and get to know her. She had an incredibly close bond with her first adopter and we believe with the right person, someone who is both kind as well as confident and consistent, she'll continue to thrive.

Kim did have a great intake evaluation with our veterinarian upon arrival who said she looks and feels great. She could see no reason to put any limitations on her future, especially with her history. We have had a few rides with her since she came back to us and Kim has been really good! She has a very light feel in the bridle and has a good positive energy undersaddle. We even popped her over a few small fences and she was very adjustable to ride to the fence and honest.
