Description
Jack O'Bite is a very recent arrival and came to After the Races in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. This big guy will be 5 years old in April. While he is unraced, he did spend a good amount of time training. He is by Golden Lad and out of a Mojave Moon mare and is a stunner, with a lot of presence!
Jack was recently sidelined and subsequently retired from racing by a suspensory (re)injury, and his intake evaluation on our farm revealed the extent of that injury to be unfortunately very severe. His suspensory is torn from the point of origin, throughout the body and the branches. We are going to be treating him aggressively with shockwave in addition to the usual remedies (icing, surpass, rest, etc) and will recheck him at regular intervals to assess if he is responding to treatment. As long as he continues to show progress, we will continue with the therapies and giving him more time.
If he is able to recover to to soundness, he will be a low level horse with no jumping in his future. He has a long road ahead though before he gets there, with an injury like this taking a year or longer to fully heal, if it fully heals.
*If anyone would like to support his care and treatments, please use the donate link on our website, and select "Rehabilitation Funds" for the initiative.
$400 will cover the cost of one shockwave treatment (he needs several)
$1200 will cover most of his basic monthly care which includes:
$225 for bedding for one month
$200 for hay for one month
$150 for grain for one month
$150 for medications/rehab care for one month
$475 miscellaneous costs (routine farrier, vet care, vaccines, dry stall, etc)
