In High Gear is a very big, 8 year old gelding who came to us in partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. He retired after an impressive 40 starts as he became less competitive over time. He has some great breeding for sport as he's by Denis of Cork (by Harlan's Holiday) and out of a High Brite mare.

He is still in fact in high gear as this guy is very fit! We jogged him after arrival and found him sound so decided to go ahead and turn him out with another gelding to have a chance to settle in before our vet saw him for his intake evaluation. Unfortunately, having arrived barefoot, when she evaluated him the next week she found him very "footy" after having been turned out. She recommended letting the farrier work on him and giving him some time for his feet to settle, and said she'd take another look at him when he's more comfortable.

What we can say is he was evaluated by another good vet at the track before arrival, who thought he would do well in most disciplines including fox hunting and showing, even with some mild arthritic changes and a small chip in one knee.

We'll certainly update with more information as he continues to settle in and his feet improve.
