Hemp is a good sized, 7 year old, chestnut gelding that came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. This guy is by Super Ninety Nine and out of as Sea of Secrets mare called Tejano Sea. Believe it or not, we've had four horses now out of the same mare! So if you were a fan of any of his siblings (Crazy Wild Bill, Glad Dad, Walk it Out Nanny) that were in our program, he's worth a look. His pedigree includes Pulpit and AP Indy on his sire's side and Storm Cat and Mr Prospector on his dam's side, so he's a pretty well bred horse.

He raced 21 times (and was graded stakes placed) and retired in July of 2024. He had a long period of turnout before coming to After the Races, but did unfortunately arrive lame. After a thorough evaluation including blocking, radiographs, and looking at old images we got from his track vet, our vet suspects he had an undiagnosed proximal suspensory injury at the end of his career which didn't get the rest it needed.

She is going to do an ultrasound on her next visit to confirm, and we'll make a plan for him from there.
