Description
Foolish Romance is a beautiful, nearly-black mare who is 5 years old and about 15.3-16 hands. She retired sound and sane after her last race at Laurel in July, arriving to After the Races by way of the Beyond the Wire program in Maryland. Immediately upon arrival we were struck by her sweet and calm demeanor. She loves attention and is very polite and easy to handle. She was introduced to a quiet field with two geldings for turn-out initially and did very well with them, though moved to a mare field after one of the geldings got a little too attached to her!
Day-to-day she is one of the easiest horses to work with in the barn. She also put on a lot of weight since arrival! She has no vices, and has pretty decent feet for a recent retiree from the track. Always a nice surprise. We do know she has a small screw in one knee. While she raced on it successfully, a recent vet evaluation here has determined she’ll do better in a lower level home. She is predominantly sound but we don’t believe she’ll stay sound in strenuous activity. We do have radiographs available for serious inquirers.
We have ridden Foolish quite a bit, walk, trot, and canter and she’s very quiet and straight forward. While still green, she’d do great with a confident intermediate rider or better, possibly supervised beginners (such as in a lesson program – not for a beginner to adopt). Our current plan of refocusing her on trails is going VERY well! She is a stellar little trail horse for only having a few weeks of trail riding under her belt. Calm, cool, collected, she just takes the world in as we explore and we think will love a leisurely life. Some lucky adopter is currently missing out on a wonderful horse!
