Candletown is a very cute, 3 year-old, 16.2 hand, black* gelding that came to us in partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. This grandson of Speightstown is by Redirect and out of a Saint Ballado mare. He raced just once as a late 2 year old and was also in training through this spring.

Rather than having a prolonged racing career, "Ash" is actually pretty fortunate to have retired with a non-displaced chip in one knee. Recent radiographs show that it has been healing exceptionally well and he has been cleared to begin turnout in a small paddock each day. We would anticipate he will need to be in a small paddock situation for 2-4 weeks before being assessed for full turnout and a return to work. With any luck he could be ready to be fully turned out and restarted by early September.

Ash is a very personable, playful, sweet gelding with no vices and a terrificaly bright future ahead! He should be considered by those who have the experience to finish his small turnout phase and ultimately restart him themselves once he's fully cleared. For those with the right experience, he should be a really fun horse to work with and bring along.

*Yes, Candletown is registered as a dark bay as most black Thoroughbreds are. They are rare and almost always "fading blacks," with coats that will turn more bay in appearance during summer months if not protected from the sun. We're not here to fight with you. If you adopt him, you can call him whatever color most resonates with you!
