Candletown is a very cute, 3 year-old, black* gelding that came to us in partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. This grandson of Speightstown is by Redirect and out of a Saint Ballado mare. He raced just once as a late 2 year old and was also in training through this spring.

Rather than having a prolonged racing career, Candletown is actually pretty fortunate to have retired with a non-displaced chip in one knee. It's expected to heal well, and he should be able to grow into a very nice partner for someone and be able to go in any direction. Right now, he's completing a phase of stall rest, and we'll update here when we have more information on timeline, etc.

He seems like a sweet gelding with no vices, and hopefully a bright future ahead!

*Yes, Candletown is registered as a dark bay as most black Thoroughbreds are. They are rare and almost always what we call "fading blacks," with coats that will turn more bay in appearance during summer months if not protected from the sun. We're not here to fight with you. If you adopt him, you can call him whatever color most resonates with you!
