Laila was adopted by Mary in New Jersey in March, 2017. Mary could not be more excited to get her home. She hopes to start her out slowly in dressage and then see where things take her, though Mary’s interests vary from dressage and low level jumping to endurance and beyond. Can’t wait to hear how they progress together.

“Laila” is a 16+ hand, 4 year old, chestnut mare by Afleet Alex out of an AP Indy mare. She retired in late 2015 and came to ATR through Second Call, the retirement program at Monmouth Park. She is RRP eligible!

Laila is incredibly well put together and the best mover in our barn for those interested in dressage, hands down. This horse looks like a more motivated warmblood when she moves, with spring in her step and just floating above the ground. Her canter is also nice and uphill.

Laila ran until the end of 2015 when she stopped to have a chip removed from her knee. Performed by Patty Hogan, the surgery was a success and she was cleared to go back to racing. While she did well in training they ultimately decided to go ahead and retire her from racing when she carried a little heat in it after breezing (running as fast as she possibly can for a distance).

Laila has been nothing but sound since her retirement and passed her veterinary evaluation here with flying colors. She has excellent range of motion and flexes sound on the knee and with her incredible movement, our vet thinks she’s worth a look if you’re in the search of a competitive horse. If you’re looking for a serious prospect for the RRP or your next dressage horse, you would be foolish to pass over this girl.

This mare has no vices, gets along very well with other horses, and is easy to have in the barn. The pictures here do not do her, or her movement, justice!
