Abby's Spirit is a 5 year old, bay gelding that came to us in partnership with New Start for Horses out of Penn National. He raced 24 times with his last race at the end of August, meaning he definitely deserves some down time to unwind and be a horse. This Pennsylvania bred gelding is by Golddigger's Boy (a son of Jump Start) and out of a Lite the Fuse mare.

"Abbott" retired sound, just in need of time to unwind and let down. He's shown no vices and has been lovely to work around since he arrived at ATR. He had a great evaluation with our vet who found him clean, just a big footsore. Since then he had an abscess pop and is MUCH more sound and comfortable since it drained. A good abscess definitely explains things!

Abbott has been good for the farrier and vet and has been sound since resolving the hoof abscess. He has been very good t o handle on the ground and has been turned out with 1-2 other geldings without any issue. He has the temperament on the ground to be amateur friendly and we've just started riding on him. His first ride he was a bit looky and noise reactive but did well considering. He was MUCH better his second ride and we suspect he just needs some time to learn the new routine and new expectations after racing.

He should do well with someone with experience working with OTTBs and could still be amateur friendly if adopted by someone patient that will enjoy the journey and work closely with a trainer while he gets going.
