Muskwa is a very well built 7 year old gelding who stands at 16.0 hands. He is a dark bay with no white beyond a fleck of a star. Muskwa has very nice manners and is a doll to be around.
After a long racing career, he retired pretty sound. We gave him several weeks off to enjoy being a horse and he is now sound and happy to be ridden. We’ve put both English and Western saddles on him and he is fine with both. Muskwa is very calm, cool, and collected. He has been started on trails and ridden around our fields as well at walk/trot/canter with no problems. He is getting better with crossing water each time we go out and is not easily spooked.
Muskwa will likely be great as a lesson horse or active pleasure horse. He is flashy enough to even make it in a show ring and a nice enough mover to bring home some ribbons. He just needs a second chance with someone who will give him a new job. This horse will not be a difficult project as he loves to work and is very well mannered.
UPDATE: Muskwa and Shade rode together in the Windswept Acres Judged Trail Ride on 11/5/11 and did great! They took 3rd place and handled the terrain and obstacles very well. They both even walked over tarps and backed around barrels which were some of the “challenges” on the ride.
